Trip Notes

Canoe Trip

Turkey Run Canoe Rental cancelled our reservation because of high water.  Sugar Valley agreed to schedule us in for an 11-mile trip at 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Everyone liked the later starting time and canoeing a new part of the river.

However, Turkey Run Canoe Rental is still preferred. There was dissatisfaction with “third world” buses and bus drive, a damaged canoe “the Titanic,” and late pickup. All believe someone with good cell phone range needs to bring a phone along so that canoers can contact the outside world. In the final analysis, Turkey Run is believed to have better trips, better buses and real veterans working for them. All prefer to end their trip where their cars are.

Open House at Outlook Cabin on Friday Night

The open house on Friday night was 100% attended. What a great way to greet everyone and catch up. Some complained that we stayed up too late, but others said that is part of the weekend’s fun. It was agreed that we would do it again next year.

Picnic

Since there was no shelter this year, Chris, John, and Cynthia selected a location very close to the lodge and the parking lot. Although we needed to carry in extra chairs, the group agreed that this location was superior to having a shelter. There was ample space for a ball game, but most of the adults were working on the cooking and serving so the ball game will be scheduled earlier next year.

Food choices as usual were great. Cost was amazing:
$4 for adults; $3 for children; $5 for smart alecky Senior Citizens.
A family photo was taken and the family meeting was held after the picnic. John Muir kept us on task. This Saturday meeting and photo time was preferred over Sunday morning. Next year, the committee asks that we e-mail our meat preferences and send John and Chris the list of reserved room reservations. We applaud Chris and Cynthia’s commitment to recycling our picnic supplies.

Detlef, who seems to be exceptional at extracting stuffed animals from the Arcade machine made a presentation of a stuffed animal to each of his cousins. At last count, he had won 14 stuffed animals of the approximately 54 animals in the machine..

Date for Next Year

June 4, 2010 through June 6, 2010
Always the 1st weekend in June ---- NOT the 1st weekend after Memorial Day.

Game Party

We headed to the game party in the Overlook Cabin directly after cleaning up the picnic. It started about 8:30 p.m. We played Trivial Pursuit. The memorable question of the night was the answer to in what flower family is the apple found? The rose! Grace and Detlef read the cards. Jack rolled the dice. Jack also had extra reading practice with Justine, sometimes known as “Velma,” and Beth. Mark Muir won two competitive games of Blokus after the Trivial Pursuit play.
